Hi Lindsay I have stayed at Freshwater on the Isle of Wight quite a few times (its my favorite place on IOW) but never saw the Thatched Church. I will have to look it out next time I go over - may be a while though - I hope its still there.

The boards where we were staying were full of the Brandy Bottle water lilies. I didn't know their name thank you for that. There were also local lizards I only spotted two but by each time I got my camera out they had scuttled off. We saw plenty of seals too just in the surf off the beach. I managed to keep the dogs away as I has been warned that the seals will take dogs out into deep water and down them - even something the size of a Labrador. According to a local cafe owner a lady had been throwing a ball into the surf for her lab earlier this year and it had been taken off and drowned. She was obviously very up set and wanted to sue! I'm still not sure who she wanted to sue - the seals may be? Jacqui

Elaine Ty for the pic of the Osprey i tried to find it and couldn't what a lovely shot. I am sure like Jill it wont be our Mabel she will be well on her way hopefully safe and well. Those pics that were sent in with the church with thatched roofs are so beautiful. The weather here is up and down raining one minute sun the next so its a mixed bag indeed. Karen Stoke

JACKIE / LINDSEY Those thatches roof churches. You have found the only 2 left in the country I believe. I too would love them but what a headache for the congregations, they only last a few years - the straw or reeds begin to break up and have to be repaired - and GOODNESS knows what the insurance will be. I know what we pay each year for an ordinary stone and slate roof but what they pay for 'extra fire risk a thatched roof ' JEEPERS!! They can get grants towards replacing the thatch I dont know if they would get help for repairs but they will have to pay the insurance themselves what a nightmare MARY LLANDUDNO

Elaine thats a beautiful picture of an osprey on the telegraph wires - not sure if it is our Mabel though as she's been gone about 2 weeks now so should be a long way off now not still in this country. The Osprey blog say there are lots of ospreys about making their way down south now so its not uncommon to see them anywhere around water where they can catch some food. Thanks for sending it in, its good to see an osprey again!...Jill(E)

I have seen 4 Badger feeding together tonight. I was particularly amused by one who was self grooming under the hedgerow, he or she was on her back, scratching away. oh they delight! me when they do that, they are adorable. When i see them do that, it makes me want to bury my face in their fur like a kid would do with a teddy bear lol. What i wouldn't give to do that, very strange i know but i would and to a fox as well. My Fox are still about bless um they visit me every night without fail, i was drawing my blinds, last night and i got a pleasant surprise a massive Dog Fox came trotting towards mine he was beautiful white tip to his tale and he was so healthy looking too. He will make for some good viewing come mating season when he picks his Vixen, and fights for her, i get to see some fabulous viewing out side here come mating season, its wonderful it really is to watch them our Fred, loves it he just sits in the window and never makes a sound eyes fixed on them, but if i opened the door it would be a different story. He has been led a merry dance many a time with the fox, round here but they always bring him back, as they double back on them selves and they out Witt him every time. Looked in on the Valley it looks so like crop circles doesn't it lol. I saw a couple of sheep there again today munching away. Karen Stoke

I looks a bit misty on the valley cam this morning, I do hope that it lifts and is followed by a sunny day to help with the drying of Mr Farmers hay. We are getting some very heavy showers with sunshine in between which is quite annoying as I am trying to do some tidying in the garden. I had my youngest grand-daughter (2 1/2 Yrs) with my yesterday and we had a lovely time. She always asks if we can go somewhere on the bus. I think it is because children of today go everywhere by car and to them a bus ride is a novelty. The sun is shining at present so I must get into the garden before the first shower comes along.
