Robin if you are out there please post even briefly just to say HELLO
9:28 Sun 27 Jun 10
Do I have gremlins in my computer or is there a problem with the owl cams as I havnt been able to get them all day. We have had some torrential showers today but I dont know if they had them at LOTL, however they all look quite happy this evening so perhaps they didnt. It is very humid and uncomfortable so looks like another restless night. When I found this site about 3 years ago I am sure I counted sometimes up to 13 badgers but there doesnt seem to be so many now. I hope everyone going on holiday has a good time. I think there is a site where I can catch up on all the happenings at Denbury, can anyone tell me where. Val Perth

Hi Everyone.

Jill I really envy you, what a great and varied 2 weeks you have, and to see all the bird and wildlife, be good if can use the office pc after hours, going to have a lot of catching up to do otherwise.

Osprey chicks are huge, getting bigger by the day, ones at Loch Garten seem to double in size each day to.

I heard about those seagulls Janice, they are a real problem here as well, attacking anyone who walks around with food in their hands, locals are aware of it, but its the tourists who don't realise and see them get dive bombed.

Another scorching day here, not the 30 degrees forecast yet but heading that way.

Enjoy your trip to Devon Janice, let me know if you get to the Fishermans Cot and what you think, The Trout Inn next door to it is nice as well, does good food, just not as scenic, but vey Olde Worlde with the thatched roof.

Elaine, Give Sue my sympathies! I did so well making my granddaughter's dress for her ballet show that the following year I was asked to do seven! - then the year after that number grew and it just went on and on. My granddaughter now does modern dance and thankfully outfits are bought - phew what a relief!
Elsie, we're surrounded by crows, they do make a din don't they, but at least we're not being dive bombed! Did you read the article where in Dorset they have suspended mail deliveries to a certain area because seagulls are attacking the postmen?!
I think we should send a search party to look for Robin - any volunteers?

Thought I would give you a laugh. A pair of crows have bred in the trees next door, and, now the youngsters are flying around poor Harold gets chased every time he goes in the garden, even when he goes out with Max they still zoom down on him. This happens year after year and this morning they woke me up at half three yelling their heads off. I love birds but not crows. Elsie

Have a good trip Jill, you will be missed, I think the forum seems to be down to Claire,Elsie,Mary,Karen,Elaine,Sue,Val and you and me at the moment.come on everyone tear yourselves away from footy and Wimbledon and lets keep it going.
I too am away in Devon for two weeks starting Monday, but thanks to the wonders of mobile internet I can keep up with the forum, but it's sometimes not strong enough to get pictures, so I'll be relying on you all for newsy updates.
Keep out of the sum it's going to be hotter than ever on Sunday, take care.

Claire - I volunteer at RSPB Dungeness. There is internet access of course during the day but the visitor centre and office is closed after 5 p.m. My daily duties are around the reserve mostly and filling-in in the shop during those vols' lunchbreaks etc. Also a bit of office work (if its raining!) or taking in stock deliveries in the shop but mostly I am out and about sometimes with the "outside boys" team doing strange and diverse things like setting up electric fencing, scything down willows etc around the footpaths, leech counting, cattle herding, as well as a good bit of bird watching of course! Nest monitoring, chick counts, etc. as well as hide inspections, and generally being around for the public to ask questions etc. Also helping with special events like Moth Morning, Wild Flower Walk, Mammal Evening, etc etc it varies from day to day. One day I might be clipping vegetation from around the hides, another day I will spend 4 hours watching marsh harriers and seeing how many food drops they make - all in such beautiful surroundings! One year I was lucky enough to find a rare moth and was credited with it, along with the two wardens I was with, on the moth website! In the evenings its just like being at home really - shower, dinner, TV and bed - just no computer - but I will try and log on in any spare moments during the daytime if I get a chance. I've been doing this now for 5 years and thoroughly enjoy it - before Dungeness I volunteered on Skomer Island for about 8 years which of course was seabird and puffin heaven! I think the first year I found Denbury I had just got back from Skomer and sent in lots of puffin pics for the gallery!

Its a scorcher here too - coming up to 5 o'clock and still hot and muggy. Denbury lake looks very inviting - I would love to sit on the bank and dip my feet in the water.... I doubt the geese would take kindly to that though! OK back to watching tennis - Have a good weekend all....Jill

Hi Everyone.

I see the intruder is still hanging around the LOTL, saw it land on the nest around 1pm, then flew off again, judging by Mabels calls I'm guessing still around. Just seen the shadow fly over.

Owls are getting so big and their feathers are starting to show. Cam seems to be having a fit today, more off than on.

Where do you do your volunteering Jill? You'll be lost with no internet.

Weather is still a scorcher here. Hope everyones having a good weekend and enjoying the sunshine.

Hello all - very quiet on here lately - must be a combination of this lovely weather, all the sport on TV, the excitement at the Osprey Nest, people doing their gardening, going on holiday etc etc.

Just to let you all know I will be away from next weekend until the 19th July - going on my usual two-week volunteering stint so no internet connection - unless I can persuade them to let me use the office computer after hours! I will be checking the cams every day this week though - love to see the goose family and the swans, and checking on the owls and ospreys! Its so heartwarming to see how Mable has recovererd since her ordeal last weekend - her maternal instincts just willed her to get better for her family, and didn't Mac do well taking over feeding duties while she was so low!! He is a worthy successor to Eric - I wonder if he will return next year?

I expect Mr. Farmer is very busy on the farm - I wonder if you ever got that cider press yet? I know its difficult to fit everything in sometimes so hope you can do a diary update sometime - how is Thornton doing? I enjoyed watching the badgers the other night - mother and cubs frolicking about and rolling down the slope - looked like they were having such fun!

Well I must get on here but will be back to check later - enjoy this lovely sunny Saturday ttfn .... Jill

Hello everyone, well what a week it has been with Mabel/Lady of the Loch sat her glued to the screen most of the weekend and when she flew off on Monday tea was halted until she came back to the nest. I would like to say on here a very big THANK YOU to PETER and EMMA and the REST of the OSPREY team for keeping us up to date as to what was happening! Your webcam bill must be horrendous Mr Farmer. Thank you also for keeping the forum up to speed during such a heart wrenching time for all us regular osprey watchers.
Elsie I noticed you posted today I guess you have not heard from his lordship or wise you would have said. Hope you are keeping well.
ROBIN WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE YOU??????????
It is only 4 weeks until the school holidays maybe Sue, Elsie and I should come to Wallasey to see if we can find you!!
Mr Farmer do you know how many badgers there are in the sett this year. I think I counted 9 tonight it seems very small compared to prevoius years. Elaine

I have to say how nice it is to see so much activity on the lake, and, I noticed the other day that the Swans and the Geese wre standing near ech other. Suppose it is a case that once they get used to each other they will mix. Looks like the owlets are feeling this heat, they are flat out the three of them. Hope everyone out there is enjoying this lovely weather, no doubt Mr and Mrs Farmer will be gtting lots of jobes done. Elsie

Evening Everyone.

I've been glued to both the soccer and the tennis, epecially that amazing 5 setter which finished earlier 70-68 in final set.

So delighted that Mabel is so much better, I so hope there will be no long term damage. I also see they've definitely decided not to tag or ring the chicks this year so not to cause any further stress on the birds.

Barn owls continue to make me chuckle, and have a lot of online friends who are also glued to them and the ospreys.

Hope the weather stays nice for you Janice when you come down, been very hot and humid, could do with some rain to cool things down a bit.

Have a good evening.

After the drama of the weekend I am delighted daily with the recovery of our dear Mabel, it's almost as if it never happened looking at her this morning.
I bet this sunny weather will end before we go to Devon on Monday! We are always reminded by our relatives "it was lovely last week"!
Claire are you o.k.? Been quiet!
Robin- the ladies are still waiting to hear from you.
How's the cider press progress Mr Farmer?

An Osprey just took the big fish away, was it an intruder, or the Dad?
