The oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico has finally been capped and at this time no oil is leaking in the Gulf of Mexico. Now for the clean up. Let's hope and pray the cap holds and no more oil leaks in the Gulf. Every time I see a bird or animal or fish suffering because it is covered in oil, it breaks my heart.

Hi Pam I have checked out Khaki Campbell ducks on the net and I don't think they are what I've seen as I don't recal them having orange beaks, I'm hoping to get some pictures while out at lunch but it's been raining for most of the day here so I didn't go out. I will hopeing get some snaps over the next couple of days. Bec

Janice, Leeds i can see 3 Owlets all safe and sound huddled together, i thought they slept in the day they must be hungry.
Laura, Crediton so they like plums too who would have guessed that, it seems they like a lot of stuff we didn't know about. I knew they liked apples as i remember Mr Farmer mentioning it in a Diary once. The Lake has been busy today, every time i looked in there were a dozen or more moorhens would they be? Yesterday i saw one of the Swan on its own it cuts a lonely figure bless. Karen Stoke

My sister lives in the Forest Of Dean and rescues and keeps ex battery hens, she has also had a problem with badgers, until she told me some years ago I never thought that they would also go for livestock. They do like plums as well.

Mary Lland your not daft i honestly was shocked to hear that the badger would go for livestock also, i too only thought their diet consisted of worms and such oh and the peanut butty's lol. Mary i am the best ranter i know lol. Maybe they should have us in Parliament wed get stuff done i bet quicker and cheaper.
Fancy all the owlets bieng female thats good news for breeding purposes so good luck girls for the future. As they suffered badly last year if my memory serves me right?.
That was sad news about the Canadian Geese, but i see the need for a cull but never the less it doesn't make it easier to hear of such things does it.

It started off dull here, and quite blustery the Sun was doing its best to come out and it was pleasant to be in as the wind was quiet gentle making the trees talk, i love that sound no kids no dogs barking just the voice of the trees, i call it and quite warm, but refreshing, as i have just been pottering about in the garden pruning then the heavens opened and such a down pour followed like a flash flood, now its gone bright again within 10 minutes.
I popped in on the Osprey nest this morning there were two visible the chicks i presume they were just perched taking in the scenery quite a beautiful scene they looked so grown up. It wont be long till they are off will it ah!. I wonder what Mabel will do will she stay here or will she go to Warmer climes, i wished she was chipped so we could follow her but having said that i dont think my nerves could take it. But she amazed us all a few weeks back didn't she shes one hell of a Bird that one in a class of her own the word Unique!! spring`s to my mind the word to sum her up.
there were some beautiful colours in the sky on the Ranga cam at 5 this morning blues greens and pinks i wish we could have those colours here.

Canada geese killed by U.S. officials

13/07/2010 12:49:15 PM

CBC News
Officials with the U.S. Department of Agriculture have killed hundreds of Canada geese in a bid to improve airline security, the New York Times reported Tuesday.

The geese had been living in Prospect Park, a 2.4-square-kilometre park in Brooklyn, N.Y., that is used widely for recreational purposes.

Last Thursday morning, wildlife officials and biologists descended on the park, herded the geese into crates and took them to a nearby building where they were gassed, USDA spokeswoman Carol A. Bannerman told the Times.

"We are talking about aviation and passenger and property safety," Bannerman is quoted as saying, in defending the measure. "In New York City, from 1981 to 1999, the population increase [of geese] was sevenfold."

Geese blamed for accident

In January 2009, a large flock of Canada geese slammed head-on into a US Airways jetliner shortly after it took off from New York's LaGuardia airport, forcing it to make an emergency landing in the Hudson River.

But aviation safety is not listed among the many problems - accumulation of droppings, fouling of recreational areas, attacks on humans - that can "quickly develop as bird numbers increase," according to a USDA fact sheet.

The same fact sheet also suggests that euthanizing Canada geese is the most effective way to reduce their local population.

City parks officials granted permission for the birds' removal but told the Times they were not notified of the specifics.

Local resident Anne-Katrin Titze called the geese's removal "a horrible end," the Times reported. Another resident, Seth Kaplan, said he was crushed when he heard what happened.
