Karen,Tina
I've spoken to the friends we were visiting yesterday. They have a holiday caravan in Bridlington and are due home tomorrow, they are going to follow the same route as us and if the horses are still there, they are going to see the local police.Watch this space...
I sent a rather shirty reply to the email I received, saying the RSPCA were not doing their job properly! again watch this space....

Janice Leeds i feel so sorry for those horses its terrible how people treat their animals i bet you've been worried to death havent you! I think its disgusting how the RSPCA have dealt with this emergency because to me that is what it is you should lodge a complaint by Email to their head office, and do what Tina, said threaten them with the Media, that should do something as they should act on every phone call, as soon as possible, and one should not have to talk to a dammed machine in these circumstances.
I rang my local one a few years ago as i had spotted a poorly fox in broad daylight it seemed as though it was walking sideways as though it was drunk, it was ever so thin when i rang them they weren't at all bothered i gave them a piece of my mind and went to look for the fox but it had disappeared. But i must say in a lot of cases they do a wonderful Job!!. I have had trouble with the cams my self the last few days i thought it was my end. Karen Stoke

Anybody having trouble with the cams tonight? Hatchery cam ok, cam 1 on then off, cams 2 & 3 not working.
Walking back from our local Parish Rooms at 2-15 this afternoon, I saw what I thought at first was a very orangy butterfly. I then realised it was a Jersey Tiger Moth. Beautiful it was. I waited till it settled on a leaf and went and had a close look Black and white closed wings. I have seen them before, but its the first one I have seen this year. Always see things when I havent got me camera with me. Lorna from Devon

Janice (leeds), ever thought of emailing RSPCA and threaten to go to the media? Tina
4:55 Wed 11 Aug 10
Barbara..... you won't be pleased...I am livid!
I emailed the RSPCA last night as I thought they could give these horses some attention as soon as possible this morning. About 2 hours ago (3pm) I got an email asking me to ring to report the horses!! I have been trying to get through for over an hour - at my expense!
Each time the called is answered by a 'robot' then when I press the designated number - it's engaged! I just can't get through and each time I am being charged for the call because it is answered, albeit by a machine!
Honestly, this does little to encourage members of the public to report this cruelty does it? Under the old system when a number was engaged you weren't charged - now, because it's answered you are!
I have replied to the email I got, and told them in no uncertain terms they should report this internally as I can't afford all these calls.
I am not a happy bunny. I can't believe all this red tape etc, why couldn't the recipient of my email, who was in York, pass on the report, instead of waiting all morning and part of the afternoon to tell me to ring up?!
That's my rant for today!!

You're right Elaine, we went to Brid! I could kick myself, I was listening to the Monty Don programme, but didn't actually watch it, I was too busy working on my own Ancestry! I have been doing family research for over four years now, both mine and Johns, when these programmes come on t.v. it spurs me on to get involved again, so that's why I missed the programme!

Janice Leeds: my guess is that you either went to Bridlington or Scarborough. On the rare occasions that we have gone that far north we have also seen the said horses by the roadside. The travellers were parked up a couple of miles away behind a hedge. At this time of year I think there is a travellers fair somewhere near to there, can't remember the exact date.
Well have finally got a new tower just needs all the small details sorting like updates and stuff, so by tonight I should be up and running at full speed again.
Once again I missed the black cat last night, did see the badgers though, all went onto the valley cam, it was eerie again with the mist blowing across the field. Didn't see anything, did see the deer the night before, they looked so peaceful sat there.
Did anyone see the Monty Don programme on Monday night where he was searching for his ancestors? If you did you got a glimpse of the town where Sue and I live. Elaine

John and I have been to the east coast today visiting some friends,on the way home we came across some 'gypsy' horses tethered at the roadside, the poor things were on such short chains and had eaten all the grass they could reach! There didn't seem to be any drinking water either so we were very concerned about them. I have now emailed the RSPCA in York and requested they go and check them out. How can these people just leave their animals by the wayside, there were no caravans in the area, but there was no doubt that these horses were the type owned by travellers. It does make me angry to see them chained up, I do hope the RSPCA go and check them out.I felt quite helpless, we couldn't have found any water for them, had nothing to carry it in even if we had. I think this practise of tethering horses on verges should be outlawed.

Karen, I haven't been able to get Ranga Cam either, I like to watch the changing colours in the sky as well. There have been auroras in some places in the last week, mainly north america and canada, but also norway according to the spaceweather site, the sun is very active at the moment. Lets hope it stays that way when they loose the midnight sun and we can see the dark skies of iceland, and hopefully some auroras.

Lovely tranquil scene of the lake just now - at the fishing spot - about a dozen ducks on the bank, and the two black swans preening in the water, one just glided off and came back again - looks very peaceful there... Jill(E)

Ladies it seems to me that the lack of sun has lead to the poor Blackberries the ones at the top of the bush obviously get more sunlight i have noticed how small they are as well its such a shame as they are a lovely supplement to our diets to get ready for the winter to get our immune systems built up. Nettle tea is very good too i have drank that many of time`s i love it but its personal choice of taste. I must get my herb book out and refresh my memory its so bad just lately and i have forgot when you gather the nettle. Well that was good last night with the Deer in the Valley a hopeful sign that they may return to us for the rutting season. I am still having probs getting the cams is it just me? they come on at times then black screen. I havent been able to get the Ranga cam for a few days now and i love that one i have seen some fabulous colours in the sky. Karen Stoke

Morning, all. Blackberries are just making their presence known here in south Somerset, there are a few ripe ones but we normally pick from the middle to end August onwards and judging by the bushes we should have a good crop this year. We take tubs when we walk our dog and spend many happy hours getting stung and taking thorns out of fingers, but oh,the crumbles and ice-cream.We usually freeze them and have one for Christmas. When the children were younger (many yaers ago) they would take their stilts and reach the berries too high for me. They didn't really like blackberrying as they had other things to do,being children. Just why are the best and biggest berries out of reach? Tina

Lindsay I meant to say 17 'different' moths is a good haul - but 54 in total is great! Did you manage to ID them all? I look forward to seeing your pics on the gallery.
Karen I was watching the deer on Cam1 too as it was on the valley tonight - so sweet with the little one's eyes shining brightly. Looks like its pouring down there now! I laughed at your story of being pulled through the brambles by your dog! We did the same thing as kids, we would each take jam jars and plastic bags and dad had a hooked walking stick as usually the best blackberries were highest up. Our fingers and mouths were stained deep purple as yours were but ohh the taste is exquisite straight from the bush! I think brambles are the same as blackberries although I heard Valentine Warner on TV the other day saying there were loads of different varieties - and I agree the prices in the supermarkets are so expensive when you can get them for free for a little effort!
Val Perth I hope your computer behaves itself now - we don't want the forum turning blue! lol ... Nite all...Jill(E)
