Hi all
The good news is our neighbours are back and it appears some of the horses have been moved to new grassed areas, so it's obvious someone is attending to them so I don't feel so bad now. Our friends had a good nosey round and although the horses don't have water, they appear o.k. so I think I'll just have to mark this down to experience although I may decide to write to the RSPCA about their lack of response.
So for the time being panic over, I'm not about to wage war on the travellers - wouldn't dare!!

Janice I was afraid that might be the case, so short of keeping a vigil on the horses day and night to see whether they are indeed being fed and watered there's not a lot more you can do! I agree it seems a cruel way to go about keeping them - why don't they tether them near to their trailers so at least then can keep an eye on them! There are some near where I work and they always look a bit forlorn as you say, but at least these are kept on a very long rope so their scope of grass to eat is quite wide, and they are moved every day to a different part. I guess thats just the way it is. Shame you seem to have wasted your time but keep an eye on them nevertheless - I don't hold out much hope for an inspector to be "in the area" any time soon!

I've just been in touch with The Horse Trust, who in turn passed me on to a 'wild horse' charity. They tell me that there is nothing that can be done! Tethering horses by the roadside is not illegal and apparently when travellers leave their horses they never leave water as the horses can kick it over, nearby children can use it to throw at the horses etc. So the travellers apparently offer water first thing each morning and late at night, and, according to these 'experts' two buckets of water is sufficient! So in other words I've spent two days chasing my tail!
I think it's absolutely disgusting that any animal could be treat this way. I was asked if the horses looked ill - how would I know, they did look forlorn, but I suppose this type of horse never looks terrific. They did say if they had an inspector anywhere near the area they would get him to check it for me, but otherwise couldn't do very much as they travellers are not breaking any laws.

Jill in all honesty i dont think Janice, going to the pikeys would do any good at all they are a different breed to us where manners are concerned it could be a dangerous situation for her. I think she took the best possible way to deal with this through the police and RSPCA lets just hope they acted or some others reported this matter..

Welcome back Penny Chicago! Chicago! Chicago! its wonderful to hear from you again i guessed you'd been busy. Does that kid in England still love Fungi yes he does tell hubby he is fascinated by it when we were going brambling he spotted some in the grounds of the school and i could see his eyes searching for a way to get to them lol and his chat went then came back as he was weighing the situation up i said we cant get to them son its trespassing if we go in there, all the cameras will see us. He still tried for me to go fetch them he said we can say that Fred ran off got through the railings and we had to fetch him lol bless him we could still do it kaz come on. But i must admitt the Fungi looked so good just poking out the grass in the early evening light almost magical they looked. He would love to see them penny thank you. I have a new email now i dont think Mr Farmer will know this one i had to change it as i forgot my password for the other when i changed laptops i have got to send some photos in myself so will have to suss this lap top out for it. I am that busy at the moment though with one thing and another i will get round to it as soon as i can, but its so good to hear from you Penny and many thanks for remembering Jordan, he will be pleased. Can you believe this?!!
I've just had an email from the RSPCA in York, who I contacted twice yesterday, apologising for my not being able to get through on their 'careline' and telling me it only costs 5p per call - then they go on to say they cannot report the problem internally as I requested as they would also have to use the same number I rang and it would cost the RSPCA !!!!! They also requested I do not contact them again over the matter as they are just a small animal shelter and can't deal with my problem. I'm getting angrier by the minute!! This needs exposing and I'm just the one to do it....watch this space.

Janice//Leeds The annoying part of all this is the RSPCA will turn things around and blame someone else--maybe the police would contact them for you//or your local vet//I really hope you can get some joy out of somebody//Barbara South Staffs

RE THE HORSES because of Kays horses going to the Horse Trust when she had to give them up because of her illness I often go to their site see if there is any news of them, because of their involvement in the Amersham affair I also found Redwings and various other horse rescue sites and im sure I read that they are all aware of the horse fairs and were sending observers to them so there are others watching.they have got together and now have a legal code of how horses should be treated and it can be used to bring offenders to court, however that doesnt mean that the RSPCA should not have answered your call in a professional manner and given a swift response mary llandudno

Jill,
There was no obvious sign of any travellers nearby! I've had another try this morning on the RSPCA'd hotline and it's still ringing engaged! I'll have to wait until our neighbours get home and see if they've had any luck.

Welcome back Penny ChicagoX3 - we've missed you! Glad to hear all is well over there, as its been agegs since we heard from our forumers over the pond.
Janice, Leeds I'm very upset to hear that the RSPCA have done nothing about those horses - I suppose its not worth you actually speaking to the travellers themselves? I know sometimes they can be a bit "hostile" and not appreciate anyone telling them their business, but in this case its everyone's business if horses are left on the roadside without any water or shade and barely any grass to nibble. Just a thought, you might find a sympathetic person who hadn't realized the horses' plight! If they are indeed attending a horse fair of some kind they would surely want their horses to be in good condition for the sale! Not to go in all guns blazing, but just to let them know you've noticed the situation and could they perhaps at least give them some food and water?....Jill(E)

I have been off for awhile with lots going on at home. However, recently I went to Wisconsin and took a walk in a State Park and came across some fungi. Immediatily I started taking pictures, and my hubby asked if I was taking them for that "kid in England who likes mushrooms". I believe that would be your little friend, Karen, Stoke??? Is he still interested in these things?
I do have some nice pictures and would be happy to share them, is Mr. Farmer posting any photos or should we exchange emails thru Mr. Farmer and I can send them to you?

Janice Leeds i hope the Horses aren't there when your friends pass by to check. I hope they think to take some water to them maybe you can check to remind them just in case no one has gone to their aid. I await a post regarding the RSPCA from you. Karen Stoke

I've spoken to the friends we were visiting yesterday. They have a holiday caravan in Bridlington and are due home tomorrow, they are going to follow the same route as us and if the horses are still there, they are going to see the local police.Watch this space...
I sent a rather shirty reply to the email I received, saying the RSPCA were not doing their job properly! again watch this space....
